The Dangers Children Face With Social Media and The Internet

In the United States alone, it is estimated that every few minutes a child goes missing. Over 460,000 children go missing from the U.S. each and every year. That is a staggering and very scary amount. Many of these children are being abducted and sold as sex slaves, while some are even killed.

It is no secret that child abductors throughout the world use the internet and social media platforms as a tool to gain the trust of potential victims. Children are susceptible to online luring and most don’t even know or understand it.

Websites like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp and more are all social media platforms that are filled with child predators. It is extremely crucial and important to educate children at a young age about the dangers of the internet and social media.

Educating children about the dangers of the internet and social media at a young age can truly prevent tens of thousands of child abductions. Children must be aware that there are predators online. They must be aware of certain terminology such as grooming and luring – both are tactics used by predators to gain the trust of a child and ultimately cause harm to that child.

The internet is not designed with child safety in mind. That’s why it’s important for good, honest adults and safe, supportive organizations to educate children and keep them safe. Through individual donations and donor support, we can help reduce the number of children that go missing each and every year – all over the globe.

From providing educational materials on internet safety to providing safe havens for those children who need a safe place to reside. We can make a difference.
